Transfer Requirements

Individuals who have completed 24 semester hours of transferable academic credit from accredited colleges or universities with a 2.0 GPA or better may be admitted to UAH as transfer students. Students transferring from other accredited colleges should request that official transcripts be mailed to the Office of Admissions from each college attended. An official transcript is typically sent from one institution to another in a sealed envelope for the receiving institution to open upon arrival.

Transfer admission decisions will be based on a full evaluation of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended with emphasis given to those courses in which subject matter is acceptable and relevant to the desired UAH degree program.

Transfer students must have a minimum overall "C" average (2.0 GPA) as well as a minimum "C" average (2.0 GPA) in all courses transferable to UAH and be in good standing at the institution from which they are transferring. A student who is currently on suspension or dismissal from another college or university is not eligible for admission until his or her suspension period has ended or until the student is otherwise eligible to return to the prior institution.

An individual who has completed fewer than 24 hours of transferable college-level course work will be considered for admission on the basis of high school grades and ACT or SAT scores as well as official college transcripts.

Admission to the upper division of the College of Administrative Science or the College of Nursing is an action independent from admission to the University. Students interested in pursuing the BSBA or BSN should refer to the appropriate college section of the catalog for more information. Transfer students who intend to pursue the BSBA degree should read carefully the College’s section on “Admission as a Transfer Student” and “Admission to the upper division".

An individual who does not qualify for admission as a regular transfer student may be admitted on probation and may be subject to special requirements or reviews as a condition of admission. A transfer student enrolled in this category is subject to the same periodic review of his or her academic record as a regularly admitted student who is on academic probation. If at such review point the student becomes subject to academic suspension, the suspension is for a minimum of one semester and the student must petition the Admissions and Scholastic Affairs Committee for approval to re-enroll. A student who completes 30 credit hours with an overall GPA of 2.0 or better will be removed from probationary status and classified as a regular student.

Transfer Credits from Alabama 2 year Colleges (STARS)

The eligibility of your transfer credits depends on the subject matter of each credit and the accreditation status of the institution that awarded each credit. Credits in academic subjects are usually eligible for transfer if they were awarded by an institution accredited by one of the regional agencies recognized by the American Council on Education.

Transfer coursework will appear on your UAH transcript, however, the academic department offering your major will determine if each course will apply toward your degree. A maximum of 64 semester hours of credit from a junior, community or two-year college may be transferred to UAH and applied toward a degree program. Requests for exceptions to this rule must be made in writing and approved by the dean of the college in which the student is enrolled.

Want a quick and simple way to see which credits will transfer? If you're transferring from a public two-year community college in Alabama, check the STARS (Statewide Articulation Reporting System) website. You can select a major and access a list of community college/core curriculum courses that will apply to that particular degree.

Transfer Credits from other Colleges / Universities

The eligibility of your transfer credits depends on the subject matter of each credit and the accreditation status of the institution that awarded each credit. Credits in academic subjects are usually eligible for transfer if they were awarded by an institution accredited by one of the regional agencies recognized by the American Council on Education.

Transfer coursework will appear on your UAH transcript, however, the academic department offering your major will determine if each course will apply toward your degree. If you are transferring from an accredited four-year institution, the number of hours you may transfer is unlimited. However, remedial, technical, vocational, and orientation credits are not considered.

Please note: Acceptance of transfer credit by the Office of Admission and application of credits to a specific degree program by the academic department are two separate and distinct processes. Consult an academic advisor for degree applicability within the desired degree program.
